What type of samples can you analyse?
We can analyse most materials to identify whether or not asbestos is present. The most common materials we test are textured coatings (such as ‘Artex’); vinyl floor tiles and associated adhesives; cement (such as garage roofs, soffits, flues, guttering & downpipes); insulating boards, tiles & panels; pipe & boiler insulation materials; bakelite toilet cisterns and many more!
We can also carry out a water absorption test on insulating board and cement products where there is doubt about their precise composition and to confirm the control measures required during removal. Water absorption is not an accredited test.
How much does it cost?
This will depend on the number of samples and the turnaround time you require. Once you have contacted us and discussed your requirements, you will be issued with a quotation. Whatever the price you can be assured of a high quality and cost efficient service.
How much sample do you require?
Samples must be representative of all materials present. Samples should be double bagged and clearly labelled before being submitted to the laboratory. A Thumb-sized piece is sufficient for homogenous manufactured products such as insulating board or cement. Materials which may be less homogenous such as textured coatings (Artex), insulation, etc, we recommend at least a tablespoon-sized sample should be submitted. If you are unsure or have any queries, do not hesitate to contact us.
What do I do when I am ready to send my samples to the laboratory?
You should ensure each sample is individually double-wrapped and clearly labelled before submitting to the laboratory. You can list your sample details and information on our in-house sample submission form which can be sent directly to you or downloaded here or, if you prefer, you can submit samples with your own written details using the prompts on our form to ensure sufficient information is supplied to provide you with a comprehensive test report.
Can you supply me with sample bags?
Contact us and we can arrange for sample bags to be delivered to you. Alternatively you can pick some up when you are passing. Prices available on request.
How long before I receive my result?
Normally analysis will begin soon after samples arrive but this will vary depending on the nature and number of samples. If you have any specific requirements please contact us.
Who will analyse my results?
Our highly experienced analysts all hold the BOHS P401 qualification for bulk analysis.
How do I know what the results are?
When analysis is completed you will be sent a report that will list results and other analytical information relating to your samples. Please contact us if you require further clarification or advice once you have received your test report.
What quality assurances do the results have?
East Riding Laboratories is accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Scheme (UKAS) to BSI/ISO 17025. We also participate in the Asbestos in Materials Quality Control Scheme (AIMS) organised by the Health and Safety Executive. This means that regular independent audits of our systems and processes take place to ensure a high quality result is produced. This gives customers a high degree of confidence in our results.
What if you find asbestos in my sample?
Depending on the nature and location of the asbestos-containing material and your plans for managing it, finding asbestos in your building does not necessarily lead to expensive removal work. We can put you in touch with specialists who can discuss your options and help you to reach a satisfactory course of action.
